She was cruising up to a yellow light – texting in afternoon rush hour. My son and I saw her from our van and I said “Let’s stare at her.”
When we stopped at a red light right beside her, we both stared at her. After a moment, the woman in her 30s looked up from her phone and met our eyes. A mom and her 13-year-old son stared at her with the most serious faces we could muster.
She smiled weakly, with a glare in her eyes – and I said “Let’s stop now.”
We wondered how she might feel – showing such a bad example to a young person. Then we laughed at our direct action approach. It was our own small way of stopping distracted driving.
